Contact lens technology has come a long way since the first lenses were invented in the late 1880s, when they were made from glass. Thanks to leaps and bounds in technology, ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are now made from far more sophisticated and complex materials.
Here are just some of the technologies ACUVUE® has developed so you can enjoy comfortable, convenient contact lens wear and healthy, clear vision.
HYDRACLEAR® technology: For longer-lasting comfort and a fresh feeling
The latest ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are made from silicone hydrogel. Our advanced silicone hydrogels share many of the properties of other hydrogels but are more breathable1 and allow almost 100% of available oxygen2 to pass through the lens to help your eyes feel fresh and comfortable.
Our exclusive HYDRACLEAR® technology is used in all of our silicone hydrogel contact lenses to keep moisture locked inside, so you can experience comfortable, moisture-rich lenses all day long.
ASD technology: Removing the blur of astigmatism
For astigmatism, lenses need to stay in place when you blink or roll your eyes. Our ACCELERATED STABILISATION DESIGN™ technology uses the power of your blink to keep your contact lens in the correct position.
LACREON® technology: For moist eyes all day long
Our unique LACREON® technology locks a moisture-rich ingredient into the hydrogel contact lens material to help keep your eyes moist and fresh – even at the end of the day when your eyes are tired and you need it most.
Daily Disposables: For convenience
ACUVUE® launched the world’s first daily disposable lens. For the first time, contact lens wearers could enjoy the convenience of a new lens every day without the need for disinfecting solutions, cleaning or storage.
UV blocking filters: Protect your eyes from the sun
ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are the only major brand to block the transmission of more than 98% of UVB and 85% of UVA rays, as standard across their product range.3
Wearing ACUVUE® contact lenses as well as wraparound sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat protects the areas of your eyes that sunglasses alone are unable to cover.

ACUVUE®: Continuing leaders in lens technology
ACUVUE OASYS® with HYDRACLEAR® PLUS were the first reusable contact lenses to receive a Seal of Acceptance for Ultraviolet Absorbing Contact Lenses from the World Council of Optometry.
They have now been joined by 1-DAY ACUVUE® TruEye®, which offers the highest protection from the transmission of the sun’s ultraviolet rays of any daily disposable contact lens.3
ACUVUE® is committed to continue pioneering the technologies to help ensure you enjoy clear, healthy vision and increasingly convenient and comfortable contact lens wear.
1. More oxygen when compared to hydrogel contact lenses.
2. 100% availability when compared to no lens wear.
3. All ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses have UV Blocking to help provide protection against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye. UV absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV absorbing eyewear such as UV absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV absorbing eyewear as directed by your eye care professional.
